Memorial Day Weekend Events in Marin

Friday, May 22

  • Circus Osorio/American Crown Circus sets up its big top at St. Vincent's in Marinwood, just south of Novato for 4 days.  This family run, bilingual circus is centered around acrobats, performers, and clowns, with no exotic animals. Performances are on Friday, May 22 at 7 pm; Saturday May 23 and 24 at 2, 4:30 and 7 pm; and Sunday, May 25 at 2 pm and 4:30 pm. Advance tickets are $12 for adults, but include two free children's (12 and under) tickets per adult ticket. Tickets can be purchased at Matt and Jeff's Car Wash (Novato), or Bank of Marin (Ignacio and Novato branches), or Quezada Markets in Novato and San Rafael. Tickets are $15 the day of the show.   • Join Call of the Sea for a Sunset Sail on Friday from 6–8:30 pm. Watch the sun set from the deck of the 82’ schooner Seaward, operated by Call of the Sea, a non-profit that educates children and adults about sailing and maritime activities. Adults $40, youth (6-12) $25, no toddlers please. Beverages and snacks are provided and don't forget to bring your sweater. The cruise leaves from the Bay Model Visitor's Center in Sausalito.   • The Marin Greek Festival takes place May 23 and 24 from 11 am to 10 pm at the Nativity of Christ Greek Orthodox Church at 1110 Dickson Drive in Novato. Come for the fabulous Greek cuisine and live Greek music. For more info, call (415) 883-1998 or visit www.nativityofchrist.org/festival.
  • Asian Pacific Heritage Festival returns to the Bay Area Discovery Museum on Saturday from 10 am-5 pm. There will be free admission to the museum on Saturday. Come learn about and experience the different traditions of Asian and Pacific Islander communities of the Bay Area through performances, food and the arts. Get your feet stomping and heartbeat going with Marin Chinese Cultural Association Lion Dance. Food plates will be available for purchase from community food booths.   • Welcome Summer Birds, a bird walk led by Kerry Wilcox (an experienced birder) at the Richardson Audubon Society on Saturday from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Come and view and learn about the waterfowl, shorebirds, and songbirds that visit Richardson Bay in the spring and summer. Beginner and advanced birders, and families welcome. RSVP: 388-2524. The Richardson Audubon Society is located at 376 Greenwood Beach Road in Tiburon. The cost is $10 per adult and $5 per child. For more info, go to their website.
  • U.S. Coast Guard Station Bodega Bay Open House takes place Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. Come tour the station and see rescue boats, helicopters, and a live search-and-rescue display. You can also meet representatives from law enforcement agencies, state and national parks, California fish and game, and more. 355 Doran Park Road, Bodega Bay.
