March 17, 2016Posted by pamela |
Celebrate all things agricultural on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 9 am to noon at the 2016 Marin Farm Day at the Marin County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall in San Rafael. This free event, celebrating its 32nd year, provides hands-on educational experiences outside the classroom for kids of all ages. This year's theme is "Finding Culture in Agriculture".
Families and children can meet farm animals, including cows, horses and ponies, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits, and more, and experience interactive exhibition on agriculture, health, animals, gardens, seed planting, spinning and weaving, gardening, and environmental education from a variety of Northern California ranchers, growers, producers, and educators, and 4-H clubs. Participants include Marin County 4-H, Marin County Beekeepers, Clover Stornetta Farms, Agricultural Institute of Marin, Indian Valley Carriage Co., Marin Organic, North Bay Dairy Women, Hog Island Oysters, Novato Junior Horsemen, Conservation Corps North Bay, and many others.
Many of the exhibits and presentations are specifically focused on children ages 3 through 12, but all ages are welcome. Come have fun and learn about the importance of agriculture and farming in Marin County. There will also be contests for elementary school essays, art, and quilts, with awards sponsored by various business donors.
Farm Day takes place in the Marin County Fair Exhibit Hall, 10 Avenue of the Flags in San Rafael, near the Marin Civic Center. Admission is free; no tickets or reservations needed. For more information, call (415) 382-7846 or visit the Marin Center website.
