This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of Tuesday, December 12, and runs through December 20. Families in Marin will find plenty of opportunities to celebrate the Festival of Light this season, with public menorah lightings and fun events featuring storytelling, games, delicious treats like latkes and sufganiyot (donuts), and more. Here's a rundown of family friendly Hanukkah celebrations and events in and around Marin and beyond this winter.

Festival of Lights at the Osher Marin JCC

Sunday, December 10, 9:30 am–2 pm
The Osher Marin JCC celebrates Hanukkah early with their Festival of Lights on Sunday, December 10! This fun and free family party features live music, a glow in the dark dance party, delicious food, an artisan marketplace, Minecraft and LEGO dreidel making, a bounce house, face painting, and more. Family ArtBash Sundays: Spinning Tales of Light and Magic

Sunday, December 10, 10 am–3 pm
Join us for a day-long festival, accessible for all families, celebrating Hanukkah and folktales, and filled with art-making, shadow puppets, dreidel playing, dancing, storytelling, and a special episode of Shaboom!—the Jewish animated kids' series. Chabad of Novato Hannukah Events

Chabad of Novato hosts a variety of fun and family-friendly Hannukah events, including a hands-on menorah building workshop at Home Depot in San Rafael, a skating party, and a Grand Menorah Lighting at Whole Foods Market in Novato. Home Depot Menorah Workshop
Sunday, December 10, 10–11:30 am

Grand Menorah Lighting
Tuesday, December 12, 5 pm

Come see the lighting of a 10-foot menorah at Whole Foods Market in downtown Novato. This free community event also features music and dancing, a raffle, refreshments like hot latkes and donuts, and an appearance by city dignitaries. Chanukah on Ice
Sunday, December 17, 6 pm
Come to Marin on Ice at Northgate Mall in San Rafael for a family Chanukah party. Skate to Jewish music, participate in a grand menorah lighting on the ice, shop for holiday gifts, and enjoy treats like latkes, donuts, gelt. Latkes & Lights Hanukkah Celebration
Monday, December 18, 5–6 pm

Community Chanukah Party
Sunday, December 20, 7 pm

Hanukkah at the Mart

Tuesday, December 12, 4:30–6:30 pm
DIESEL, A Bookstore and the Marin Country Mart welcome you to come celebrate the first night of Hanukkah on Tuesday, December 12, from 4:30–6:30 pm. These festivities are made possible by the partnership of Kesher, Brandeis Marin, Osher Marin JCC, PJ Library, and Wise Sons. This event is free and all are welcome to attend. Come celebrate the First Night of Hanukkah with music, food, and activities for the whole family! Bill Graham Menorah at Union Square

December 12–19
The Bill Graham Menorah lights up San Francisco's Union Square, beginning with a lighting ceremony on Tuesday, December 12 at 5 pm. Sunday, December 17, from 2–6 pm is Bill Graham Menorah Day, featuring local officials and longtime Bill Graham colleagues, musical performances, the Dreidel House, and kids' music and crafts. Corte Madera Town Center Pop-up Menorah Lighting

Thursday, December 14, 6–7 pm

Light the Menorah at Ghirardelli Square

Thursday, December 14, 4–7 pm
Ghirardelli Square will celebrate Hanukkah on Thursday, December 14 from 4 to 7 pm in the Upper Plaza and Fountain Plaza with free children’s activities, music, and lighting of the menorah by Rabbi Peretz Mochkin.  Location: Ghirardelli Square (Upper Plaza / Fountain Plaza), 900 North Point Street, San Francisco. Chanukah at Rodef Sholom

Friday, December 15, 4:30–6:15 pm
Rodef Sholom in San Rafael will celebrate with a Junior Jews Chanukah Pajama Party, for toddlers through kindergarteners, from 4:30–5:30 pm. Little ones can come in their PJs and light candles together, sing songs, hear stories, and have a snack. Johnny Doughtnuts will be in front of the synagogue from 5:45–6:15 pm serving sufganiyot and coffee before the 6:15 pm shabbat services. Location: 170 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael 94903.
