High Energy Birthday Parties at Cal-Star Gymnastics

My son recently celebrated his sixth birthday, and when we asked him what he wanted to do for his party, he was adamant on having it at Cal-Star Gymnastics, a gymnastics and sports facility in Novato. He'd been to another party there last fall and obviously it made an impression on him. The price seemed to fit our budget, so we made the reservation and got ready to invite his friends.

Although I'd been to Cal-Star before for their drop-in Power Play sessions, I wasn't too familiar with their birthday parties. I didn't quite know what to expect from them, but I was more than pleasantly surprised at how fun and well organized the party was. The best thing about it, of course, was that all the kids had a blast. We had a wide range of ages there, from 3 to 8, and everyone had a really good time. Of course it didn't hurt that they were getting some great exercise and physical activity while they were at it!

The coaches at Cal-Star run a pretty tight ship, and keep everything running on schedule. For our party, we started with a session in the foam pit, which, with its climbing wall and ropes to swing from, was pretty much the hit of the party. Then, our partygoers moved on to the trampoline, and from there went into full free-play mode, where they got to play on pretty much any of the equipment in the facility. Next up were a couple of games that saw the kids broken up into two teams, and after that, a giant three-person spinning "Hurricane Swing" that each child got a chance to ride on. Activities are naturally tailored to be age appropriate for each group.

After that, there was time left for more free play, as well as cake and a piñata. Sounds like a pretty full day, doesn't it? The entire party lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes, with 15-minute setup and takedown periods. Cal-Star does a lot of parties, on Saturdays and Sundays only, and keep to a tight schedule. Their base cost for a birthday party is $190, which is good for the first 10 children. Each additional participating child costs $16 a head, payable at the end of the party. They also provide tables, chairs, and the use of their refrigerator. Maximum party size is 30 kids.
