The Ultimate Candy Store!

March 17, 2007
When I walked into Powell’s Sweet Shoppe in downtown Novato, I felt like I was reliving my childhood. This old-time candy store has a nostalgic theme that brings in people of all ages. Besides the WOW factor of seeing the 18-foot bright red and blue nutcracker, colorful lights, and floor-to-ceiling piles of candy, I felt like I was in a candy wonderland, and found myself reminiscing about my childhood.  I saw candy that I haven’t seen in years, like Abba Zabbas, Reeds root beer candies, JuJubes, Sugar Daddies, Gold Mine nugget bubble gum, Charlston Chews and candy cigarettes. They also have a variety of regional favorite candies and chocolates, such as the southern Moon Pies and GooGoo Clusters and our local Jelly Bellys in bulk containers. If you are not a huge candy fan, you will be after visiting Powell’s on Grant Avenue in downtown Novato. If you are a local or not, it’s definitely worth a drive to the downtown area to visit this incredible candy store.

Not only do they carry candy from when I was a kid, but also toys from the same generation, such as, Sea Monkeys, the Magic 8 Ball and Etch a Sketch.

They also have a gelato counter with 24 flavors and an old-time soda counter where they carry bottled sodas, including Orange Crush, Bubble Up, and a variety of old-fashioned root beers. In the back of the store are comfy theater chairs where you can sit and watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which plays in an endless loop on a big-screen plasma TV.

If you’re looking to fill your kids Easter baskets or just to satisfy your chocolate craving, Powell’s Sweet Shoppe in Novato is the place to go. If you do go into Powell's Sweet Shoppe, please let them know that Marin Mommies sent you.

Thanks so much!

I really appreciate all the cool places that you post on your website. I check it just about every day!

Last night, on a whim, on our way home from Grandma's house, we stopped by Powell's Sweet Shoppe! What a wonderful experience!! Not big enough for the huge double stroller that I must take everywhere, but luckily my husband was with me, so he carried one girl and I carried the other. My arm was really hurting when we left because I was in there for so long! I couldn't tear myself away! I had to buy SOMETHING!!! I can't wait to go back when I don't have the kids so I can really take my time and soak it all in!!

Thanks again!
