North Bay Pumpkin Patches

October 20, 2007
pumpkin patchLooking for that true Halloween pumpkin patch experience? Check out list of pumpkin patches in Marin and southern Sonoma counties to find the perfect place for you and your family to pick out your pumpkins and get in the Halloween spirit. In Marin County, only the Lafranchi Pumpkin Patch offers that on-the-farm experience, but old favorites like the St. Vincent's Pumpkin Patch are open as well. To find an abundance of real-live farms offering pumpkin patches this season, head up north a short distance to rural Sonoma County.

We plan to visit as many of these pumpkin patches as we can this fall season, and will post reviews as soon as we can. Have we overlooked your favorite pumpkin patch? Let us and everyone else know by leaving a comment. Admission to pumpkin patches is free unless otherwise noted.

Tolay Fall Festival & Pumpkin Patch in Petaluma

Come be a part of the 2nd annual Tolay Fall Festival taking place at Tolay Lake Regional Park in Petaluma over two long weekends in October – Friday through Sunday, October 12-14 & 19-21. The Festival will again highlight our natural, agricultural and cultural heritage through recreation, farm products, food, fun, and of course, pumpkins!
Last year’s inaugural festival was a huge success, with over 12,000 attendees. This year is sure to be bigger, with an expanded children’s program and new features including an Native American Village with tule boat making demonstrations, and the “Nighttime Creatures” barn with black light marine life, reptiles, and amphibians, bats, and an elaborate life-like diorama of mammals found in the area. A scarecrow art contest with celebrity judges and big-ticket prizes will feature works from local artists.
Favorite activities will include the giant straw maze, hands-on children’s activities and pumpkins/fall decorative items for sale. Park Rangers will lead interpretive walks and hayrides, 4H members will bring farm animals, and the (continued)
Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria will once again hold demonstrations of Indian life. Regional Parks is working with the local farming community and other organizations to promote Sonoma County agriculture. The Environmental Discovery Center of Sonoma County will present ‘From Earth To You’, a hands-on area involving plants and animals, and an Eco-Village with games & activities.
This outdoor festival will be open to the public Friday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday/Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Attendees will be able to park on-site for $5 (free with annual park pass), and enjoy the festival for free! Tolay Lake Regional Park is located at the end of Cannon Lane, east of Petaluma off Lakeville Highway. Look for the signs! For more information, contact Regional Parks at (707) 565-2041 or www.sonoma-county.org/parks.
