Review: The Little Froglet Ultimate Year-Round Hoodie (and Enter to Win One!)
One of the things about living in Marin and the San Francisco Bay Area is that due to the many microclimates here, we end up wearing our sweaters and jackets year-round. Growing up here, I always think it's funny to hear people back east talk about putting their winter clothes away for the summer. Here, you'll need that wool sweater and parka for trips to San Francisco and Point Reyes during the middle of July.
With that in mind, it really pays to find a piece of clothing that your child will be able to wear whenever the weather dictates, whether it's on a foggy summer morning on the playground or on a chilly winter day. We recently got to try out a new children's jacket by Little Froglet, a new company launched just last month by Marin mompreneur Nicole Cibellis,
At first, Little Froglet's Ultimate Year 'Round Hoodie looks not unlike most of the other full-zip hooded sweatshirts you've seen. But a closer look reveals some neat functional improvements on the standard hoodie design. First and foremost, the jacket features a unique "Scuba" hood design with a more form fitting shape and high collar that help keep it from falling off, keeping little ears and heads warm on chilly days.
Second, the sleeves have integral thumbholes, so they help keep kids' hands warm without the need for gloves. (And let's face it—you probably sick of having to buy a new pair of kids' gloves every time one is lost, aren't you?)
The jacket itself is made of heavyweight soft snuggly cotton fleece. There's a colorful embroidered green frog on the left sleeve, and a label with a space to write in your child's name—you won't want to lose this hoodie.
Colors are bright and kid-friendly. Our review sample is a bright raspberry pink that's appealing to little girls like my daughter (and helpful for keeping track of where your child is on the playground), but other colors like chocolate brown and bright blue are also available. Each sweatshirt has an appealing silkscreened design across the front, including "Twirl" on the girl's version, a unisex "Soar" with skateboarder, and "Vroom" with a car design.
We think the Ultimate Year 'Round Hoodie is a great addition to any child's wardrobe. It will probably end up being one of your child's favorite things to wear, regardless of the weather. Be aware that sizes do run a little small—order a size up if that's a concern.
