Unique Summer Day Camps in Marin 2008

There are so many different day camps being offered in Marin. Every year, there seems to be more of a variety of camps for kids of all ages. Listed below are a few popular and interesting camps:

 

Angel Island Camp is a 25-year-old tradition on historic Angel Island State Park in San Francisco Bay. Run by the Belvedere-Tiburon Recreation Department, sessions include Medieval Times, Survivor Challenge, Wildlife Wonders, Wild West, Mad Scientists, and more. An introduction to kayaking is provided on the last day of each session. One-week sessions are from 9:15 am to 4:15 pm, and begin June 16 and run through August 15, 2008. The Bay Area Discovery Museum is offering a Discovery Days Summer Camp starting June 16 through August 22 for ages 4 to those entering 4th grade. Sign up for a different Discovery Camp each week and celebrate the joy of guided exploration and open-ended play. Camp themes include visual and performing arts, building, natural history, science, crafts and more. They offer half-day camps from 9:00am-noon & 1:00 pm-4:00 pm and full-day camps from 9:00am-3:00 pm. Prices range from $225-$415 depending on program and if you are a BADM member. Camp Doodles offers a variety of programs including talent time, cool craft projects, capture the flag, science and nature discovery, ice-cream day, song fest, counselor skits, dress-up days, a daily slide show, and more. It’s for children entering kindergarten through 6th grade. Camp Doodles runs from June 23 through August 15, from 9 am to 4 pm with extended care from 7:30 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday. Prices range from $210 to $250 a week. Extended care is $30 weekly or $8 daily. Camp Doodles is located at Strawberry Point School in Mill Valley. For more info, go to www.campdoodles.com.


Camp Galileocombines top quality art, science, and outdoor activities with fun camp traditions and a dynamic staff for kids entering kindergarten through 5th grades. Every summer campers return to learn more advanced skills, become better leaders and teammates, and develop into incredible innovators. Camp Galileo is held June through August at multiple campuses around the Bay Area. Camp Galileo is a three-week program, with options to sign up for one- or two-week sessions. The camp operates Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm, with extended care offered in the morning (8 to 9 am) and afternoon (3 to 5:30 pm). Campers bring their own snacks and lunches. Dominican University of California in San Rafael will be offering a summer camp starting on June 16 and runs through August 15 for ages 3-18.  There are half-day sessions of swimming and games for parents and their children ages 3 to 6. There are 21 all-day recreational sports camps in basketball, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse, soccer, golf and cheer for children ages 7 to 12. For ages 13 and up there are nine half-day competitive camps in basketball, volleyball, tennis, lacrosse and soccer . Prices range from $150-$290 depending on  weekly camp  options. Steve and Kate’s Camp emphasizes art and technology with a number of specialized studios, including film, recording, performing arts, sewing, ceramics, jewelry, and knitting. All-day sessions run from June 16 to August 15 at the following Bacich (Kentfield) and Brookside Upper (San Anselmo) schools, and June 23 to August 22 at Tam Valley School (Mill Valley). Days and membership may be used at any of the three locations. The price is $1,500 for the entire summer or $75 daily.
