Located on Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Road, near Novato Boulevard, the Cheese Factory is a great spot where the kids can endlessly run wild on their expansive lawn. Bring your own picnic, or buy food at their cheese store and deli, which stocks sandwiches, ice cream, cheese (of course), soft drinks, and an extensive selection of wine. - Kehoe Beach is a great place for a spring picnic and to celebrate the ones you love. The beach itself it flat and wide, with some nice sheltered areas to get you out of the wind. Kids can run around the vast expansive stretch of sand and look for driftwood, kelp, and shells. This is also one of the few beaches out at Point Reyes that allow on-leash dogs, so feel free to bring Rover or Spot along as well, although please keep in mind that the part of the beach south of the trail is off-limits to your canine pal. Here's a cool virtual panorama of Kehoe Beach from the bluffs above, to give you a better idea of the whole experience (Quicktime plugin required). Read more about Kehoe Beach in our article here.
- If you feel like heading up to the Wine Country, the Sonoma Plaza is a wonderful picnic spot. There are plenty of picnic tables, as well as children's playgrounds and a pond where you can feed the ducks. You can pack your own picnic brunch or pick something up from one of the merchants around the Plaza, like the Sonoma Cheese Factory and the Basque Boulangerie. There are plenty of things to keep everyone occupied, including great shopping and numerous historic attractions, like the Mission San Francisco Solano and the old Mexican barracks.
