Music has always been a passion of mine, so when my son was born, I was excited to start him in one of the local music classes for babies. Ok, the truth is I want him to be the next Mozart… so I figured I should probably get started early if that was my goal. We started his first music class at CradleRock in Tiburon when he was about 6 months old and he loved it. Cradle Rock included lots of singing and hands-on time with instruments. I loved the idea that each child had their own instrument, because it really got the children involved in the music. We tried one class where the children had to share each instrument and pass it around. My son lost interest in that class and we didn’t enjoy it as much, probably because of the “Mine! Mine!” factor.
We also tried another class at the Petaluma School of Music (also know as the Music Hatchery) in Petaluma. This program also offered individual, hands-on instruments, and teacher Sandy has the most beautiful voice. For more info on this program, call (707)775-3655. There are so many wonderful music classes to choose from in the North Bay. There is Kindermusik, Music Together and Mary Ann Hall’s Music to name a few.
