Lamb Day, Music, and More at Windrush Farm

March 30, 2017

Lamb Day at Windrush Farm

Come celebrate spring by meeting some baby lambs on the farm! Windrush Farm, a working sheep farm in Chileno Valley, offers its final two Lamb Day events of the season on Saturday, April 1 and April 15. There are over 25 lambs available for viewing!

The gates open at 10 am for a meet-and-greet with the sheep, a spinning demonstration, milking the goat, and finding tadpoles in the pond. Make sure you bring a picnic to enjoy at the pond, too! Admission to Lamb Day costs $20 for adults and is free for children under 12. You can pay at the door or register in advance online.

Paige Green Photography is also offering spring family photo shoots on the farm this April. 45-minute sessions include 10 high-resolution digital photos. While they can't guarantee that all the baby animals on the farm will cooperate, they can make sure everyone has a great time and gets some super-cute photos! Learn more and register here.

Midori at the Marin Symphony Marin Mommies presents a sponsored shout-out from the Marin Symphony.

As a child prodigy, Midori traveled the world, making her legendary debut at age 11 with the New York Philharmonic. Now a mature artist who has continued to develop her art, Midori inspires audiences around the globe. This season the Marin Symphony and our Youth Orchestra have been selected for her prestigious Orchestra Residency Program Award.

Midori and all three of the Marin Symphony Youth ensembles will perform in the grand finale of her residency in a program called Orch'apalooza! In what is sure to be an energetic final number, all three of our youth ensembles (160 musicians ages 8–18) will join forces to perform the rousing "Toreador March" from Bizet's Carmen. The performance is followed by Cookie'palooza (free cookies for all attendees in the Redwood Foyer).

We all know the importance of music in our children's development.  Take advantage of this family-friendly entry into the world of classical music.

Winter Music Classes for Kids in Marin

January 1, 2017

Music ClassMy kids have always really loved music, and I think that's due in part to taking music classes like these starting when they were really little. We tried a few different classes around Marin and the North Bay, and really like the Kindermusik programs offered here in Novato by Music with Melissa. Regardless of which program you choose, there is a music class for every child from newborn to grade school.

If you’re thinking of getting your child involved in a music class, then now’s the time to sign up. Many classes will resume their sessions in January. Here’s an updated list we’ve put together of a variety of local music programs and classes. If we’ve left out your favorite class then please let us know, or, better yet, leave a comment and tell everyone why you and your kids love it!

"What a Ride!" at the 2016 Marin County Fair

June 26, 2016

Marin County Fair Stormtroopers

Who's ready for the fair?! The 75th annual Marin County Fair opens on Thursday, June 30, at the Marin County Fairgrounds in San Rafael, near the Marin Civic Center. This year's Marin County Fair theme is "What a Ride!"

This year, the Fair celebrates Marin County and all of its colorful traditions and innovations and highlights what residents love most about their local fair, like thrilling rides, popular concerts, farm animals, family activities, amazing exhibis, and a spectacular nightly fireworks display. This year's theme also echoes Hunter S. Thompson's quote “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!”
