Friday, November 20

  • Celebrate the start of the Holiday Season and get a sneak preview of Disney on Ice presents Worlds of Fantasy at Embarcadero Center's Winter Carnival and Building Lighting Ceremony. Winter Carnival with fun activities, crafts, and performances for families takes place from 2–4, and the lighting of the Embarcadero Center buildings with 17,000 lights happens from 6–7 pm.   • The celebration continues for the grand re-opening of the newly remodeled Northgate Mall in San Rafael. Enjoy fashion modeling in the mall and Oak Plaza from noon to 4 pm, and a performanceby Pride and Joy in Oak Plaza from 6–8 pm.   • Bring the kids (ages 18 months to 4 years) to Fantastic Fridays: Sand and Sea for beach-side activities this Friday from 10 to 11:30 am at the Crissy Field Center. To register call (415) 561-7752, or go to  www.parksconservancy.org. The cost is $12 per child for pre-registration or $15 at the door.
  • On Friday Nights at the de Young the entire museum is open until 8:45 pm. This Friday is College Night: enjoy world culture music spun by DJ Felix, and participate in hands-on art activities for the family. There's discounted admission to the King Tut exhibition Fridays after 5 pm: adults and seniors $20, FAMSF members $15. Youth (6–17) tickets are half-price after 3 pm when you present a Borders Rewards Card or a Flat Anubis at the de Young's King Tut box office.   • Dance Palace Kids Musical Theater Program presents: The Kids How to do Almost Everything Guide on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 pm, Sunday at 4 pm. The Kids’ How To Do (Almost) Everything Guide is an original musical based on a book created by Laura & the kids and edited by Murray Suid. The show features West Marin children ages 6–14, with some special roles for 3-5 year olds, and is directed by Laura Alderdice. The cost is $8 general, $5 seniors, youth.   • Marin Kids & Maternity Consignment celebrates its first anniversary this Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.   • The Bonnie Lockhart Sing-and-Dance will be taking place at the Belvedere-Tiburon Library on Saturday at 11 am. Local musician Bonnie Lockhart will encourage kids to sing and dance in this free music program for ages 0–5 in the Founders Room.   • Rock to the undersea tunes of 20,000 Volts Under the Sea by the Brian Waite Band at the Bay Area Discovery Museum on Saturday at 11 am. Help the band get to their gig in Atlantis City and be part of the adventure. Members $5, general child $10, general adult $12, under 1 free. Part of the BADM's Hip Kids' Music Series.   • Join Call of the Sea for an Adventure Sail for the entire family on Saturday from 9:30 am–12:30 pm. Help the crew raise sails and steer the boat, or just sit back and enjoy the view!  Morning winds are typically light so they often get to sail under the Golden Gate Bridge.  This is a great sail for families. Snacks and beverages included. Adults: $40, youth (6–12) $25, kids under 6 free. The cruise leaves from the Bay Model Visitor's Center in Sausalito.   • The Berkeley Playhouse presents The Wizard of Oz at The Julia Morgan Performing Arts Center on Saturday at 2 and 7 pm. Join Dorothy and Toto and their friends on a wild and wonderful adventure over the rainbow and through the Land of Oz. Award-winning director Jon Tracy directs this enchanting classic! Tickets prices: Adult $28; Senior $25; Children (under the age of 14) $19. Advance tickets are available at www.berkeleyplayhouse.org. Box office will open 1 hour before curtain.   • Check out fashions from emerging designers and take care of some holiday shopping at the THREAD show this weekend at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco. Offerings include children's designs from Ricochet, Daughter Earth, 4Fifteen Clothing, and more. Many of the featured designers are local and eco-friendly! 11 am to 6 pm, Saturday and Sunday. Sunday, November 22

  • Nature for Kids at Mount Burdell in Novato on Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm. Come and explore the slopes of this big preserve and see how all of the animals are getting ready for winter. If the rains, we might see the first newts on the move. If it’s been dry, we could encounter snakes and lizards looking for a last meal before their long winter sleep. Meet at the San Andreas Trailhead. From Hwy 101 in Novato, take the Atherton Ave/San Marin Dr exit, go west on San Marin Dr for 2.3 miles, turn right on San Andreas Dr; trailhead is near the end on the right.   • Celebrate the birthday of famed Peanuts cartoonist Charles "Sparky" Schulz with free admission to the Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa! Free admission all day Sunday, November 22, with ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery served from 1–3 pm. www.schulzmuseum.org
  • Kick off the holiday season at San Francisco's popular Pier 39 with their Tree Lighting Celebration from 2 to 5:30 pm. Meet your favorite Disney pals from 2 to 4 pm, and enjoy live holiday entertainment from 2 to 5 pm. Tree lighting ceremony begins at 5:30 pm. More info: www.pier39.com

  • Family entertainer Enzo Garcia present Breakfast with Enzo at the Mill Valley Golf Course Clubhouse every Sunday. There will be two different sets of music at 10 and 11 am. Enzo invites you, your friends, family, and neighbors to join him for a morning of genuine, heartfelt, sing-along family fun. He'll bring his banjo, accordion, guitar, musical saw, and other surprises. All you need are clapping hands, singing voices and dancing feet. BYOB—Bring Your Own Breakfast.   • The Civic Center Farmers' Market in San Rafael takes place Sunday from 8 am to 1 pm. They have lots of organically grown produce, breads, eggs, and fresh cut flowers, as well as live music, bounce houses, and more. This farmers' market is a great one to take the kids to.
