Montessori de Terra Linda Open House January 20
Marin Mommies presents a sponsored shout-out from Montessori de Terra Linda.
Elementary students at Montessori de Terra Linda in San Rafael had an extraordinary opportunity to participate in Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots youth service program this year. The mission of Roots and Shoots aligns perfectly with our Montessori values – to foster respect and compassion for all living things, to promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs, and to inspire everyone to take action to make the world a better place for people, other animals, and the environment. Our students worked in groups to develop service projects to perform at school or in the greater Marin County community, and had the opportunity to present their projects to Dr. Goodall in person at a Celebration of Service in San Francisco. Our students were so proud of the contributions they made, and were inspired by meeting Dr. Goodall and contributing to her global leadership mission.
Our students worked on projects ranging from coyote awareness campaigns to supporting Wildcare via small fundraising initiatives. Others worked towards achieving schoolyard habitat certification through the National Wildlife Federation, and organizing activities to remove invasive species to foster growth of native plants. Another group took on a project to clean up Santa Margarita Creek, one of our local waterways. Some students focused on artistic beautification and embarked on a fire hydrant beautification project, and a mandala mural painting in Terra Linda.
Attend our Open House on Saturday, January 20 to learn more about our inspiring curriculum for children ages 2–12.
