A New Home for San Rafael's Parents Center

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin, new home of the Parents CenterThe Parents Center is moving! Offering support, advice, information, and activities for parents, parents-to-be, and young children, the Parents Center moves out of its original home in San Rafael's Heller's children's store and relocates after a brief hiatus to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin in Terra Linda. The Parents Place will operate out of Heller's until May 5, and programs start again at the new location on May 18, starting with Little Music Circle. Little Music Circle, taught by Parents Center founder and program director Georgia Montgomery, has the distinction of being the only program of its kind in Marin where families only pay for classes they attend (make-up classes can be attended at any time); drop-ins are welcome, too.

Their drop-in New Moms Support Group, with a breastfeeding and newborn care specialist facilitating, begins May 31 and continues on Tuesdays at 11 am. The Parents Center also offers infant/child CPR and choke-saving classes, as well as other special programs througout the year. Check their website for schedule and registration information.

Bubble time at Little Music CircleThe Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin (UUCM) is located at 240 Channing Way in San Rafael. Only a few minutes north of the old location at Heller's the new facility offers the Parents Center expanded space and plenty of parking, as well as amazing views of Marin County. To get there, take Highway 101 to the Redwood Highway frontage road (that runs east of 101 between Lucas Valley Road and Freitas Parkway), then turn onto Professional Center Parkway and head up the hill; turn right on Channing Way, then left through the UUCM gate and right into the parking lot.

The Parents Center was founded in 2009 by program director Georgia Montgomery in Heller's for Children on Fourth Street in San Rafael. With a advisory board of top-notch local professionals—including Marin Mommies contributors pediatrician Dr. Oded Herbsman and baby sleep expert Angelique Millette—and classes and support groups for new moms and moms-to-be, the Parents Center has proven to be an invaluable resource for Marin parents.
