A New Take on "The Music Man" at 142 Throckmorton Theatre

The Music ManThere’s trouble in River City when 142 Throckmorton's production of Meredith Willson’s six-time, Tony Award-winning musical The Music Man comes to Mill Valley! The Music Man tells the story of fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash, howerver are thwarted when he falls for Marian, the local librarian!

A partnership with La Familia, Oakland School for the Arts, and 142 Throckmorton, this production of The Music Man is inspired by Lin Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton, featuring a diverse cast of actors and a mission to unite communities, build bridges, and create innovative art.

Director Amy Marie Haven has a diverse theater background focusing on directing, acting, and community building and has directed for and acted with many award-winning local companies including Cal Shakes, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, the Quixote Project, Alter Theater, Sleepwalkers Theatre, and We Players. Amy Marie is a co-founder of Tomorrow Youth Repertory in Alameda, and has spent the last two years as a full-time faculty member at Oakland School for the Arts.

Performances of The Music Man take place Thursday and Friday, July 27 and 28 at 7 pm, Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30 at 1 pm, Thursday and Friday, August 3 and 4 at 7 pm, and Saturday and Sunday, August 5 and 6 at 1 pm. General admission tickets cost $15 and $20 and reserved seats are $35. Order tickets online at or by calling (415) 383-9600. The box office is also open Tuesday through Sunday, from 2 to 6 pm for in-person sales.

The historic Throckmorton Theatre is located in downtown Mill Valley at 142 Throckmorton Avenue. It's an amazing and fun venue, and if you haven't seen a show there, you owe it to yourself (and your family) to check it out, especially for one of their amazing youth performances. Find out more at
