Chalice Camp: Climate, Justice, and Hope

UU Marin presents Chalice Camp: Climate, Justice, and Hope for Kindergarteners through 6th graders. Explore issues of our interconnected web and climate with a focus on justice and hope. The activities during the week include drama, art, community building, energetic daily worship, games, and community service based on curriculum developed by religious educators of our faith.

Counselor in training positions available for 7th – 8th graders at 1/2 the registration fee.

Chalice Camp responds to the realities of climate disruption that all of us, including our youth, are facing. Evidence suggests that children are highly attuned to the feelings and worries of the adults around them. While some younger children may not have much understanding of climate change, they are likely aware that people are worried about it. For older youth, the realities of the climate crisis may already be apparent in their lives and the lives of those around them.

Chalice Camp is designed to engage our young people about the present and future impacts of the climate crisis in a way that bolsters their resilience, sense of efficacy, and practice of hope.  Throughout the week, camp leaders will offer accurate information about climate disruption and how it intersects with other forms of injustice. We will share how hope, and action are vital, and feature the many ways individuals and communities can address climate change and justice, and create hope.  Campers and counselors will experience all this and more through games, community building, drama, art, and other activities while having abundant fun!

Come join us for fun and creative ways to

  • Bolster resilience
  • Explore possibilities
  • Feel hopeful

Chalice camp is a fun and meaningful week-long summer day camp for 1st through 6th graders. It deepens our youths’ understanding of themselves and their values while expanding their knowledge and capacity to be articulate about the what matters to them. For 7th and 8th graders they have the opportunity to deepen their understanding while learning leadership skills.

High school youth work as camp counselors. Together with the Camp Directors they cultivate safe spaces for children to learn and grow.

Chalice Camp is guided by this core principle:

“It’s a blessing you were born and it matters what you do,
what you know about God is a piece of the truth,
let the beauty you love be what you do,
and you don’t have to do it alone”
