This summer, even the youngest campers can have an adventurous fun time with the camps offered in Mill Valley for preschoolers, kindergarteners, and first graders by Avid4 Adventure. Choose from Discovery for pre-K, Explorer for kids in kindergarten and first grade, and Learn to Bike, for pre-K through first grade.

Discovery Camp offers three- and four-year olds a wide variety of activities, from a first tast of outdoor adventure to getting creative with outdoor cooking. Campers will learn to bike and get experience to riding on two wheels, learn about nutrition and smart eating choices, and cook delicious and nutritious meals and snacks. They'll also play games, participate in art and yoga, and more. Campers in Discovery Camp must be 3 1/2 years old and toilet trained by the start of camp.

Five- and six-year olds can get participate in Explorer Camp, where they'll engage in exciting outdoor adventures like kayaking, biking, and stand-up paddleboarding, as well as creative activities like yoga, art, and music. Camp takes place at authentic Marin recreation areas like King Mountain, McInnis Park, and China Camp State Park. Campers must be entering K–1st grade and must be 5 years old by start of camp.

At the half-day Learn to Bike! camp, aspiring cyclists aged three-and-a-half and up will learn the joys of self-sufficient cycling. Nurtured by skilled, patient instructors in a supportive on-site environment, pint-sized pedalers will enjoy camper-to-staff ratios of 4:1 for lots of individual attention and personalized coaching.

Kids are grouped by ability, and work through a thoughtful progression from scooting to coasting to pedaling as they get comfortable on two wheels. Of course there’s also time for games, art and yoga, offering campers opportunities for fun and confidence building both off and on their bikes. Learn to Bike! is intended for first-time riders or kids using training wheels or balance bikes, not those who can already ride. While campers are encouraged to use their own bikes, they can also borrow from Avid4 Adventure’s fleet.

Discovery and Explorer camps run from 9 am to 3 pm, and Learn to Bike! runs from 9 to 11:45 am or 12:15 to 3 pm. Weekly sessions start June 19 and run through August 18. Extended care is also available.

Check out Avid4 Adventure’s website at for complete details. Session prices begin at $274 for half-day programs. There are discounts for multiple weeks, and financial assistance is available, too. For more information and to register, visit or call 1 (800) 977-9873

Of course Avid4 Adventure also offers a variety of adventurous multi-sport outdoor camps for kids in 2nd–7th grades, which take place at authentic local recreation areas in Marin including McNears Beach, China Camp, Camino Alto, Ring Mountain, and Baltimore Canyon.
