Hands-on Fun for Fall at Slide Ranch

Slide Ranch is a great place for family members of all ages. We tried out one of their family farm days in the past and my kids had a great time petting the sheep planting a seed, milking a goat and making nature crafts. They offer guided tours and lots of hands-on activities, including collecting eggs from chickens, planting seeds, sampling from their organic garden, learning to make crafts and food just like the early farmers, and exploring the nearby tide pools.

Slide Ranch is located off of Shoreline Highway at Muir Beach. Below is a list of their upcoming fall events. You can sign up by printing a family day application form and mailing it in. Their programs do fill up quickly, so you need to plan ahead if you are interested in participating.

Family Farm Days (10 am–2 pm for all farm days)

$30 per person; $95 families of 4 or more; age 2 and under free.

During the family programs, your family can milk a goat, collect eggs from the chickens, and explore the organic gardens and coastal wildlands. Come learn about native plants and ecology on the trails, make nature crafts and recycled-material art, cook or bake from fresh produce from their gardens, card and spin wool from the sheep, explore the tide pools and more! Enjoy a day of family fun.

Harvest Celebration

Saturday, October 13, 10 am–4 pm

$25 per person in advance, $30 at the gate; $80 families of 4 or more in advance, $95 families of 4 or more at the gate; age 2 and under free.

Celebrate the season of bounty in the style of an old time country fair! Slide Ranch's annual Harvest Celebration offers fun, seasonally-inspired crafts and activities like building a scarecrow, spinning, and making bread, butter and cheese from scratch. Meet our farm animals, milk a goat, feed chickens, take a guided wildlands hike, get your face painted, or just relax in the ranch's beautiful garden while eating delicious local, organic cuisine. Throughout the day enjoy live, kid-friendly music and breathtaking coastal views at Slide Ranch’s Muir Beach location.

Family Campouts at the Dome above the Sea

$75 per person, age 2 and under free.

Bring the family to spend the night in Slide Ranch's beautiful backyard and camp with an ocean view. There will be crafts and nature exploration plus campfire program under the stars. There will be a farm tasting of homemade cheese, bread, butter and other treats harvested from their garden. Bring a dish for the Saturday night potluck dinner. Sunday continental breakfast is provided. The campout begins at 10 am on Saturday and wraps up by 1 pm on Sunday.

Toddler Days

$20 per person; 1 year and under free.

Toddler days take place from 9 am–noon. Enjoy experiencing the farm and gardens through your child’s eyes. Experience milking a goat, holding a warm egg from a chicken, and exploring the farm. Activities are toddler age appropriate, but all ages welcome.
