The weather is going to be beautiful this weekend! Get out, hike, and discover spectacular spring wildflowers.

Here are our picks for great events and activities for children and families this weekend. Keep in mind that many events, especially those indoors, are being canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak. While all these events are scheduled to take place this weekend, things can change at the last minute, so check with the organizer before attending to make sure it's still happening.

  • Wobbleland

    All children love playing with their food, and the Bay Area Discovery Museum’s newest traveling exhibit is a chance for them to do just that – without the mess!     Join Coach Tilda for a fun workout for the whole family!  Geared towards kids of all ages and their families, class is filled with games, activities and exercises that are safe, fun and challenging for both kids and parents.  Not only is this a creative way to start an active lifestyle at a young age, you get to spend quality time with your family in the healthiest way possible!Pre-registration is not required.   • St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Stroll

    Get your jig on and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the greenest place in the Bay Area! Not only do we have 100 acres of green space, dozens of green animals, and a vast portfolio of environmentally conscious programs, we’re also hosting a Shamrock Stroll. Follow along the self-guided tour to find lucky shamrocks featuring fun facts about our animals and get a history lesson on the Irish in our animals!  Guests can get their Irish on and come wearing green!   • Learn to Pier Fish

    Come spend the morning learning the basics of saltwater fishing at Paradise Beach Park. A limited number of poles and bait will be available on a first come, first-served basis. A valid California fishing license is required when fishing from the shore, not from the pier. All skill levels are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Don’t forget to bring a fishing pole.   • Family Fun Bike Ride
    Spring Lake Regional Park, Santa Rosa
    Saturday, noon–2 pm

    Hop on your bike for a scenic ride. Learn how to properly fit helmets, trail-sharing etiquette, how to pass cyclists and pedestrians, and about safety gear. The recommended age is 7 and older, as children should be able to keep up a steady pace while cruising the paved, flat path. Bring a bike, helmet, water, lunch, and small backpack.   • Read to a Cat

  • Campfire Program

  • St. Patrick's Day 5K & Kids Run
    Crissy Field, San Francisco

    This 5k features an out and back course close by the San Francisco Bay. Run west along Crissy Field/Golden Gate Promenade. Stay along path into Fort Point National Historic Site. Turnaround at end of parking lot and return same way to finish. Kids Run (1/2 mile) begins at 9:45 AM – Same Start/Finish location as adult race. Event details
  • Civic Center Farmers' Market
    Marin Civic Center, San Rafael

    Sunday, 8 am–1 pm
    There's lots of organically grown produce, breads, eggs, and fresh cut flowers, as well as live music, bounce houses, and more. This farmers' market is a great one to take the kids to. It’s located in the main Civic Center parking lot. Event details.
  • Basics of Freshwater Fishing
    McInnis Park, San Rafael
    Sunday, 9–11 am

    Join us at McInnis Park where rangers will teach tips and tricks of the trade of freshwater fishing at the park’s pond. This event requires a short walk up and down a large a hill to reach the park’s pond. All skill levels are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes. Don’t forget to bring a fishing pole. A fishing license is required for participants 16 and over. Friendly dogs are welcome but must be leashed. Heavy rain will cancel the event. Event details
  • Vilda Family Nature Day

    Join Vilda for a fun and educational spring day outside meeting goats, pigs, and ducks; getting crafty with seasonal treasures; and exploring the beautiful countryside of Petaluma. Family Nature Days are designed for kids ages 3–5 and their siblings. You’ll also get a sneak peek at Vilda's nature-based kindergarten program for 4–6-year-olds.   • Flying Leprechaun Skydive!
    Hiller Aviation Museum, San Carlos

    The Luck o’ the Irish meets the Hiller Aviation Museum for a special aerial celebration in honor of St. Patrick himself! Join the morning festivities, including free face painting and a jump house. At 11 am watch a bit of Leprechaun magic and aeronautical skill as the Museum’s own Leprechaun leaps from a helicopter high overhead and descends to San Carlos Airport via parachute.   • Family Music in the Park

    A children's music teacher, performer, and recording artist, who offers classes and events across the north bay and San Francisco, Megan graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston with a degree in music therapy.   • St. Patrick's Day Dog "Pawade" & Costume Contest

    You're invited to the St. Patrick's Day Dog Pawade at Patrick's Park - the largest annual event at Patrick's Park! Picnic at the park and celebrate St. Patrick's Day with these party animals. This event gives 100% of the proceeds to Rocket Dog Rescue, an all volunteer-run organization based in San Francisco that saves dogs. Event details
