Friday, March 7

Bring the kids (ages 2–5) to “Fantastic Fridays: Rainbows,” at San Francisco's Crissy Field, this Friday from 10 am to noon. Make art with colorful bubble prints, find a rainbow, and go on a Drop-ins accepted on a space-available basis. To register call (415) 561-7752, or download the form at www.parksconservancy.org. The cost is $10 per child, accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

On Friday nights, the de Young Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park stays open until 8:45 pm, offering a variety of arts programs, including live music, poetry, films, dance, tours, and lectures. The cafe is open and a no-host cocktail bar is serving drinks. There are hands-on art-making activities available for children and adults. This Friday: The World of Gilbert & George and live music by the reunited Lee Presson and the Nails. Programs are free after museum admission. More information: www.famsf.org.

The San Marin High School Music Department presents the school's spring musical: Thorougly Modern Millie (winner of the 2002 Tony Award for Best Musical). This family-friendly production is a romantic comedy set in Manhattan at the height of the Jazz Age. Performances at 8 pm March 7, 8, 14, and 15, and 2 pm on March 9 and 16, at the Emily Gates Student Center. Advance tickets, available at the San Marin High School office, 15 San Marin Drive, Novato (before 4 pm on weekdays), are $8; $10. Free Second Saturday for Families at the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito. Free admission from 1–5 pm. More info: badm.org

Richardson Bay Audubon Center and Sanctuary will hold a Blackie’s Pasture Workday from 9 am to noon on Saturday. Bring your family and friends for a morning of restoration and cleanup along the shores of Blackie’s Pasture. Appropriate for young children. RSVP: (415) 388-2524 x107.

Masque Unit Junior Theatre of Marin celebrates its 46th anniversary of producing quality live musical theater for children, with a fun musical adaptation of The Wind in the Willows: The Mad Adventures of Mr. Toad. This treasured story is brought to life on stage with wonderful music and lessons of true friendship, kindness, patience, and loyalty. Performances are March 8 and 9, 2008, at 1 and 3 pm, at the Showcase Theater at Marin Civic Center, Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael. Tickets are only $8 per person.
