Think In-n-Out Burgers gone high-end and you have my Not-so-White Trash Burgers. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t pine over In-n-Out Burger and this recipe is pretty terrific. What makes it "white trash"? Well, that’s the iceberg lettuce and special sauce. I add heirloom tomatoes just to take it up a notch.

Servings: 5
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs ground chuck
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp seasoned pepper
  • Hamburger buns
  • 2 cups iceberg lettuce, shredded
  • 1 large heirloom tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 6 slices of cooked bacon, cut in half
  • Cheddar cheese, sliced (optional)

Special Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp white balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp dill pickle relish
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • salt and pepper (to taste)

Directions:

  1. In a bowl mix the: mayonnaise, ketchup, vinegar, sugar, relish and onion. Add salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
  2. Heat grill to medium-high. Mix the chuck with the garlic powder, seasoned salt and seasoned pepper. Form patties. Add to grill and cook for about 7 minutes total for medium rare, turning over half way through adding cheese if you like. Finish the burgers on the grill to melt the cheese over top.
  3. Plate the burgers as follows: Spoon Special Sauce over the buns. Stack burger, lettuce, tomato, bacon and onion.

Eat and Enjoy!
