Summer Happenings at the Parents Place in Marin

tweenParents Place in San Rafael has been a valuable resource for countless Marin County parents and families. This summer, they offer a wide variety of programs, from childbirth education to classes for parents of tweens and teens.

Childbirth Education: A Sunday Intensive (for expectant mother and her support person)

This childbirth preparation class will provide an overview of the normal progression of labor and the birth process; what to expect when birthing in the hospital, including common protocols and possible interventions (e.g. pain medications, C-sections); and postpartum recovery. Comfort techniques and the role of a support person will be discussed throughout the class, and time will be spent practicing various techniques to help create an enjoyable and satisfying birth experience. Comfort techniques include useful movements/positions, breathing techniques, massage, hydrotherapy, vocalization, relaxation techniques, visualization, and partner support. This class includes the use of video, lecture, and group discussion, as well as practice in relaxation methods. How to Talk So T(w)eens Will Listen and Listen So T(w)eens Will Talk (for parents of 10–15 year olds)

Are you getting worn down by homework battles, constant arguments, moodiness, lack of cooperation, thoughtlessness, or other typical t(w)een behaviors? Join us for this two-week experiential, engaging workshop and learn concrete skills you can use immediately to make a positive difference in your relationship with your t(w)een. With Julie King, JD.
