"Sharks" Swims into the Cal Academy in Golden Gate Park!

gallery with shark jaw display

Come face-to-face with the often fearsome and always fascinating denizens of the deep in "Sharks", the new exhibit at San Francisco's California Academy of Sciences. Sharks opens on Friday, May 28, 2021 and runs through Sunday, January 23, 2022.

Sharks are one of the oldest and most successful predators on Earth. They’ve played a critical role in ocean ecosystems for millions of years, but today populations around the world are in steep decline.

In this new out-of-water exhibit created by Grande Experiences, you and your family can learn how the future of these awe-inspiring and misunderstood creatures rests in our hands.

Peruse 370-million-year-old fossils, teeth, and jaws to get to know ancient sharks. Then, examine life-size models that showcase the wondrous diversity of species alive today and enjoy cinematic experiences that immerse you in their underwater world.

Throughout the exhibit, discover how Academy science and advocacy has helped transform public perception of sharks from fear to fascination. You’ll gain a powerful understanding of why sharks are vital to ocean health, and feel inspired by the research and conservation efforts underway to help ensure these majestic top predators survive long into the future.
