Transcendence Theatre Company kicks off its 2023 season with "The Beat Goes On," a lively celebration of the music of the '60s, '70s, and '80s. Due to circumstances beyond Transcendence's control, performances of "The Beat Goes On" are not being held at the usual venue of Jack London State Historic Park, but rather at nearby Belos Cavalos Ranch in Kenwood.

While it's disappointing not to be able to experience the show in its usual incredible park setting, Belos Cavalos is beautiful location for an evening of outdoor musical theater in the Wine Country.

We got to experience "The Beat Goes On" on Saturday evening, and it was a fun journey through three decades of musical hits performed with energy and skill by Transcendence's cast of Broadway pros. The cast sang and danced to songs by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, the Beach Boys, the Temptations, Don McLean, Led Zeppelin, Donna Summer, Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and more. We were even treated to an impromptu rendition of "My Girl" by Aaron Levigne and David R. Gordon while the crew tended to a technical issue.

While "The Beat Goes On" seems aimed towards a Baby Boomer audience, it's still a show of timeless music, performed by an amazing talented cast, that all ages will enjoy. Even if it's not a nostalgia trip for you, you'll still love the great music and stellar performances. Of course it's made even better by the lovely outdoor Wine Country setting, too! Part of the experience is the pre-show picnic, and we brought our own food and relaxed and enjoyed our outdoor dinner while listening to live pre-show music.

The whole experience, from the pre-show picnicking to the performance itself, is magical. You really need to experience a Transcendence show this summer! "The Beat Goes On" runs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings through July 2, 2023.

Transcendence's next summer show is a staging of the Broadway musical The Full Monty (July 28–August 20) and An Enchanted Evening (September 7–17) both of which will take place at Beltane Ranch in Glen Ellen.
