San Francisco Performances Family Matinee Series is designed to bring together audiences of all ages an accessible, affordable, and interactive experience with the world's top music and dance artists. For this concert, we invited the world renown Company Wayne McGregor. The kinetic excitement of Wayne McGregor's choreography is based on his philosophy of creative learning, engaging the imagination as well as physical technique. The company performs excerpts from "Atomos"-"atomizing bodies, movement, film, sound and light"-and shows how Wayne's jaw-dropping movements are created through engaging the mind AND the body.
With collaboration at the center of his practice, McGregor has innovated new work with world-class artists from a broad range of disciplines. These have included visual artists Shirazeh Houshiary, John Pawson, Julian Opie and Tatsuo Miyajima; composers Scanner, Plaid, Joby Talbot, Jon Hopkins, The White Stripes and Kaija Saariaho; and film-makers Jane and Louise Wilson, Ravi Deepres and Frederick Wiseman. This unique, tenacious questioning between artists and artistic mediums, across the interface of science and art, through the body and mind has ensured that Company Wayne McGregor has remained at the forefront of contemporary arts for the past 20 years.
The Company's cutting-edge approach to dance allows them to be one of the most important dance companies in the world. Company Wayne McGregor has appeared at a multitude of prestigious world theaters such as Het Musiektheater, Amsterdam; Lyon Opera; Tel Aviv Opera; Lincoln Center, New York and Dansens Hus, Stockholm.
