142 Throckmorton Theatre Announces Marin Youth Performers Spring Classes

142 Throckmorton Theatre, a nonprofit theatre dedicated to supporting the arts, is pleased to announce their Marin Youth Performers Spring Classes for 2011. 142 Throckmorton Theatre's youth division, Marin Youth Performers, provides affordable, engaging and educational theatrical experiences for young people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities and produces high quality theatrical productions with performers of exceptional potential and talent. The 2011 Spring classes include:

NEW! Saturday Morning Glee Club (for ages 8-12 years old)

Singing, acting, and dancing together with play production in this exciting new Saturday morning class! From auditions to rehearsals to performance, students will develop their skills as dancers, singers and actors in a creative and nurturing environment. Under the leadership of Bidalia Albanese and Jonathan Fadner, each student will participate in both featured and ensemble scenes and songs. The class will culminate in a performance on the 142 stage! Space is limited.

TIME: Saturdays, 10:00am-12noon (9 classes)

DATES: 3/12, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2, 4/16, 4/23, 4/30, 5/7, 5/14

CLASS FEE: $320

NEW! Improvisation: The Art of Performance (6th, 7th, & 8th Graders)

This class will focus on the art of improvisational theatre. Students will be challenged by a variety of fun, funny and exciting improv games and activities. Trust is important as members of the class will create a team of performers who can think on their feet and work in a spontaneous way. This class will feature “special guests” including some of the best of the bay area’s improv community. Families will be invited to an improv showcase on the last day of the session. Beginners are welcome!

TIME: Wednesdays, 5:00pm-6:30pm (10 classes)

DATES: 3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 3/30, 4/6, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, 5/18

CLASS FEE: $320.00

NEW! Playwriting (6th, 7th, 8th & 9th Graders)

A beginners' guide to writing a ten-minute play. Under the guidance of three professional playwrights, students learn to develop character, setting and plot. Emphasis is on The Big Want: what do the characters want, what are the obstacles they encounter, and how do they achieve their goal? Writing will be done in class. Students will perform their ten-minute plays on the last day of class for family and friends.

TIME: Thursdays, 5:00pm-6:30pm (6 classes)

DATES: 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/21, 4/28

CLASS FEE: $240.00

Dramatic Adventures (K and 1st Graders)

This class will encourage each student to access his or her own creativity through movement, music and story dramatization. Students will use their imagination to act out different adventures and stories, while incorporating vocal sounds, movement, rhythm and acting techniques. Families will be invited to a class sharing on the last day of the session.

TIME: Thursdays, 3:30pm-4:30pm (10 classes)

DATES: 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/21, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19

CLASS FEE: $260.00

Creative Drama (2nd and 3rd Graders)

Students will dive into the world of drama as they explore their own creative expression. This class will emphasize imagination, movement, pantomime, and expressive use of voice. Families will be invited to a class sharing on the last day of the session.

TIME: Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00pm (10 classes)

DATES: 3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 3/30, 4/6, 4/20, 4/27, 5/4, 5/11, 5/18

CLASS FEE: $260.00

Acting Out! (4th and 5th Graders)

Students will develop their acting skills through work in role-playing, story dramatization, and improvisation. Emphasis will be placed on performing instinctively and spontaneously with clarity and confidence. Activities will focus on improvisation and acting “in the moment”. Families will be invited to a class sharing on the last day of the session.

TIME: Wednesdays, 3:30pm-4:30pm (10 classes)
