Adda Clevenger School

Founded in 1980, the Adda Clevenger School is an independent elementary and middle school providing an accelerated academic and arts curriculum to San Francisco Bay Area students grades TK-8. The integrated program of arts and academic subjects is informed by five key entailments of John Dewey’s experientialist educational philosophy: modeling, reflection, experimentation, adaptation, and autonomy. Single-section grades, with an average size of 15 students, encourage students to interact with each other across grade boundaries. Large- and small-scale performances create opportunities for students to collaborate, learn from each other and create art in ways that are unencumbered by artificial age limitations.
The Noe Valley and Presidio campuses are philosophically and programmatically identical but differ in implementation to take best advantage of the physical attributes of their respective environments. The Noe Valley campus offers well-developed and self-contained indoor classroom and performance spaces. The Presidio campus offers a wide variety of easily accessible outdoor learning opportunities together with meticulously renovated historical facilities to create an expansive and spacious campus feel.
