Family Matinee: Sean Jones

This event is expired.

San Francisco Performances Family Matinee Series is designed to bring together audiences of all ages an accessible, affordable, and interactive experience with the world's top music and dance artists. For this concert, we invited San Francisco Performances' jazz-artist-in-residence, Sean Jones. Jazz trumpeter Sean Jones honed his clarion sound as well as his educator chops as the lead trumpet of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Sean has been working with young musicians in the Bay Area as our new resident artist, and he shares the stage with some of these future greats, as well as his blazing quartet, to explore the great American art form.

Composer/trumpeter/advocate/educator Sean Jones is remarkably dedicated to the development of jazz culture, language, and music. This profound musician began his solo journey after first hearing of the magnificent John Coltrane's masterpiece A Love Supreme. "I was driving in my car at the time and I had to pull off the road. All at once, everything just came together for me. My past, my present, my future. I knew the course I needed to pursue." (Sean Jones) After receiving his Master's Degree from Rutgers University (where he studied under the renowned Professor William Fielder, who also taught Marsalis) Sean had a 6-month stint with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Wynton offered Sean a permanent position as lead trumpeter and Jones remained there until 2010, participating in two recordings.

$10 Children, $15 Adults.
