Shrek was a book illustrated and written by Caldecott and Newbery Award winning author and illustrator, William Steig in 1990. One year later, Academy Award winning director Steven Spielberg acquired the book’s film rights, thinking it would make a fantastic animated movie. The film was released in 2001 and was an instant box office hit! The film featured musical sequences making a musical adaption a natural next step. DreamWorks tapped composer Jeanine Tesori and playwright David Lindsay-Abaire to write the score, lyrics and book. In December of 2008, Shrek The Musical opened on Broadway with rave reviews. Come and join us as 25 amazing young actors from Good Shepherd Lutheran School perform this funny and touching family musical under the direction of Gretchen Simon. This wonderful show teaches us no matter how different we are each one of us is special and has a place in this world
