James & The Giant Peach, JR - Civic Arts Stage Company

In partnership with Bay Area Children's Theatre, the City of Pleasanton Civic Arts Stage Company presents Roald Dahl's popular children's tale James and the Giant Peach to open the 2017-2018 season. The adventure-filled musical theater production features songs written by the Oscar(R), Golden Globe(R), and Tony Award(R)- winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

The story goes something like this: Young orphan James Henry Trotter lives, unfortunately, with his two horrid aunts, Spiker and Sponge, in a place as remote as remote can be, above the White Cliffs of Dover in jolly old England. Through a series of very interesting events, James comes into possession of a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach bigger than his house. His curiosity launches him on a journey of equally enormous proportions as his Giant Peach rolls, floats, and soars around the globe. James' travelling cohorts include a collection of larger-than-life singing insects that ride along, instigating plenty of laughs and mayhem along the way.

The actors range from 9 to 16 years of age, and hail from Pleasanton, Dublin, and Livermore. As is the tradition for Civic Arts Stage Company productions, the 46 students split into two casts. For 'James' the casts are the "NEW YORK" cast and the "DOVER" cast.

Dedicated to his two eldest daughters, the full-length children's novel was first published in 1961 to glowing reviews and marked the beginning of British author Roald Dahl's prolific career as a children's author.

BACT's 'James' is directed by Robert Shyrock. The dynamic production team includes: Seafus Chatmon-Smith (Music Director and Sound Supervisor), Sidney Speigel (Choreographer), Kat Pruyn (Stage and Production Manager), Brooke Jennings (Costume Designer), Cassie Barnes (Lighting Designer), and Spencer Richardson (Set Designer).
