Claude, the Academy of Sciences' beloved and iconic albino alligator, is the star of his very own picture book….and we’re doing a livestream on his hatchday (birthday) on Sept. 15 to celebrate! Claude is turning 25 years old that day, and will receive a very special “hatchday treat” from the Academy biologists (rumor has it that he loves fishcakes). Afterwards, we’ll feature a 10-minute reading of Claude by (SF local) author Emma Smith, followed by a 10-minute, kid-friendly “How-to-Draw-a-Claude” lesson from illustrator Jennifer Potter.
Claude: The True Story of a White Alligator is a whimsical and charming book that tells the story of the famous snow-color reptile—from his birth in Louisiana to his present day life in his swamp at the Academy.
