Sunset Solstice Hike

This event is expired.

Join us at the Big Rock Trail and unwind as we end the longest day of the year in the beautiful Lucas Valley Preserve. Ranger Luke Bishop will lead us to one of the best sunset viewing spots in all of open space. This hike is just under 2.5 miles round-trip but includes a steady climb to our destination and descent back down after dark. This event is ideal for ages 6 and up. Degree of difficulty: Moderate to strenuous. Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight. Friendly dogs are welcome, but must be leashed. High fire danger cancels: Call (415) 473-7191 to get an update on fire danger status and land closures. If a “Red Flag” warning is in effect, all walks and events on Open Space District preserves are cancelled. Questions: Contact Ranger Luke Bishop at LkBishop@marincounty.org or (415) 473-2816. Meet at the Big Rock trailhead in San Rafael. DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 101 in San Rafael, take the exit for Lucas Valley Rd west approximately 5.5 miles (look for the big rock). The trailhead is on the north side of Lucas Valley Rd.
