Summer Series for Kids at Local Children’s Museums

Summer’s still here, and if you’re looking for fun and educational things to do with your kids during the month of August, then look no further than your local children’s museum. The Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito and the Habitot Children’s Museum in Berkeley are two of our favorites.

The Bay Area Discovery Museum offers a Special Summer Series that includes art, science and music workshops on Wednesdays at 2:00 pm for ages 4 and up.

August 1: Seaside Songs
August 8: Science by the Bay
August 15: Masterpieces, Summer Drawing Series
August 22: Prolific Puppetry

These drop-in activities are free with museum admission; adults $8.50, children $7.50, seniors $6.50 (62+ years) and children under 1 and members are free. Their hours are Tuesday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Saturday and Sundays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. For more info, go to www.baykidsmuseum.org.

Berkeley’s Habitot Children’s Museum offers its Super Summer Science Series through August, with science workshops for young children ages 3 and up. This learning and play series takes place on Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays with two sessions available on those days, 10:00 am and 11:00 am. The series’ weekly themes include the following:

August 1, 3, 4: Comparing Weight
August 8, 10, 11: Designing Shapes
August 15, 17, 18: Taking Measurements
August 22, 24, 25: Matching Patterns
August: 29, 31: Counting & Numbers

Habitot members can call to reserve a spot for the series they are interested in by calling (510) 647-1111 x10. It’s best to call the week prior to reserve a spot. If you are not a member, you can attend as a drop-in on a space available basis. You can always call that day to see if there are openings. Museum admission is Child $7 (Child under 12 months are FREE), adults are $6 (Senior/Disabled get 10% discount). The Habitot is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and they are located at2065 Kittredge Street in Berkeley. For more info, go to www.habitot.org.
