Kitsch + Sync: New Family-Friendly Restaurant & Play Space in Novato

A new kind of family gathering space has opened in downtown Novato and it's definitely worth a visit! Kitsch + Sync (pronounced "kitchen sink") combines a family-friendly restaurant with indoor and outdoor play areas, creating a place where kids can play while parents enjoy a meal, catch up with friends, or spend time together as a family.

Created by a local family who wanted something beyond the traditional restaurant experience, Kitsch + Sync was founded by Novato mom Courtney Cuberly and her husband, Bailey Barnard. Inspired by their experiences raising three young boys, the couple wanted to create a place where children could play while parents could enjoy a meal, socialize, and connect with other families. Courtney designed the interior areas and decor and put her on unique stamp on the space. It's warm and inviting and the attention to detail is incredible. We think it really looks fantastic!

Food, Drinks, and Room to Play

Located in the Downtown Novato Center at the corner of Grant and Seventh avenues, Kitsch + Sync brings together casual dining and an incredible indoor play space for families to enjoy under one roof. The spacious play area offers plenty of opportunities for kids to climb, explore, and enjoy imaginative play. The restaurant offers a menu for both kids and adults, with everything from breakfast pastries and sandwiches to flatbreads, salads, and shareable plates.

  • For kids, the Little Kitsch menu features a build-your-own bento box ($10), where children can choose a main dish, fruit or vegetable, and snack or side. Main dish options include grilled cheese, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, cheese quesadillas, and plant-based nuggets. Kids can round out their meal with choices like fresh fruit, rainbow carrots, cucumber slices, yogurt, or crackers. Organic milk and juice boxes are also available.
  • For adults, the menu includes morning and all-day options like croissants, bagels, avocado toast, and smoked salmon bagels. Lunch and dinner selections include panini sandwiches, flatbreads, and salads. Some of the more distinctive offerings include a brisket panini with Gruyère and house-pickled red onion, a honey truffle and prosciutto flatbread, and a BBQ chicken Southwest salad. Shareable plates include warm pretzel bites, whipped ricotta, burrata, and cheese and charcuterie.

The beverage menu features a rotating selection of local beers, wines from Kelley & Young in Sonoma County's Alexander Valley, mimosas, and specialty cocktails, including a strawberry and raspberry frosé and an elderflower Sauvignon Blanc spritz. For dessert, there's a selection of cookies and puddings.

Drop-In Indoor Play at Kitsch + Sync

Kitsch + Sync features an awesome, spacious indoor playroom with plenty of hands-on activities for kids to drop in and explore, burn off some energy, or meet up with friends for a playdate. Tables with power outlets are available, so you can bring your laptop and get some work done with a cup of coffee while the kiddos play nearby! The playroom includes a two large, multi-level wooden play structures with platforms, climbing ladders, poles, and slides, a pretend-play kitchen tucked underneath, and interactive activity boards with colorful gears and tactile elements that encourage hands-on, creative play.

The play area also features padded flooring and large upholstered seating cushions where children can lounge, play, or take a break between activities. In a separate room, the Little Zone offers babies and toddlers their own enclosed play area with soft climbing blocks, small steps, a crawl-through tunnel, and a colorful ball pit. This padded space also includes a pretend-play kitchen, giving little ones their own area to climb, explore, and engage in imaginative play. At the front of the restaurant, kids can get creative at a large LEGO table, where they can build, create, and use their imaginations.
