Marin GreenPlay Camp

Marin GreenPlay Camp, voted Best Summer Camp in 2017 and 2018 by Marin IJ Readers, is an innovative and place-based nature awareness camp for kids in preschool through 12th grade. Find out what makes Marin GreenPlay, now in its 13th year, so special!

Unique camps are offered for various age groups. For younger children, we offer Watershed Warriors (Grades K-2), a nature program full of exploring, games, art, storytelling, and more.  This is age-appropriate, fun, timeless, slow play, and safe exploration. We’ll use all of our senses and learn to relate to each other.

Campers entering Grades 2-5 should not miss StoryPlay, where we use the timeless children’s book Island of the Blue Dolphins to inspire us to learn to kayak and create communities of play and discovery along the shoreline at McNears Beach Park in San Rafael.

For Grades 3 and up, we offer our Digital Natives and Angel Island Treasure Hunt camps, which allow kids to experience nature while learning to geocache (the world’s largest treasure hunt) and use nature-based apps like Seek, iNaturalist, AllTrails and others on tablets that we provide.

Another camp for kids in Grades 3 and up is Dog Days, a one of a kind experience where kids (Grades 3-8) bring their dogs to camp and learn from Marin’s best dog trainers and walkers and other experts how to ethically interact with neighbors on our local trails along with coyote awareness. Campers aren’t required to bring a dog as we share the dogs who come to camp after they pass a basic screening.

Long time favorites where we provide transportation to some of the most beautiful spots in Marin County and beyond are Ocean Explorers and Rock Five. Ocean Explorers offers beach exploration and games, boogie boarding and kayaking at Muir Beach, Stinson Beach, Bolinas Lagoon and more. Level One and Advanced outdoor rock climbing is offered as part of our Rock Five program, where kids master single-pitch top rope rock climbing under the direction of our AMGA certified expert rock climbing staff.

Kids take their rock climbing skills to the next level with our Rock Beyond program (Grades 6-12), an overnight outdoor rock climbing camp which takes campers to the best climbing destinations in Tahoe.

New for 2022, Nighttime Naturalists (Grades 3-6) offers a five day, four night camping experience in Mt. Tamalpais State Park while making discoveries during the day and learning about coyotes, owls, bats, moths, foxes and other creatures active at night as well as the night skies.

Teens can also participate in our afterschool Youth Leaders Program training course held each May, which provides them with naturalist and leadership skills and invites them to help out at camp year after year through high school.
