Summer Sea Camp at Spaulding Marine Center

Summer Sea Camp is a day camp starting and ending at the Spaulding Marine Center. Campers will spend half of the day learning to sail our fleet of Pelican sailboats and half of the day working in our woodshop.
Campers will learn basic sailing skills from 2-3 instructors, including knots, sail trim, navigation, safety at sea, and maritime history of the area. Emphasis is placed on stewardship of the bay, learning through play, and hands-on participation. Activities may also include games at the park, kayaking, oceanography lessons, beach cleanups, and boat rides aboard one of our historic vessels.
In the woodshop, campers can expect to learn how to use basic shop tools to build and create. Our woodshop instructors start out with an introduction to shop safety and how to properly use hand and power tools. Projects may include building a model sailboat, a larger dinghy, or painting and maintaining our fleet of Pelicans.
Dates: June 24–August 2, 2024.
