The Traveling Mud Kitchen

Join us for The Traveling Mud Kitchen, a playful outdoor class where little ones, ages 18 months - 3 years old, and their caregivers explore, create, and discover together in nature! We gather outdoors, at scenic sites, giving children the chance to connect with the natural world while enjoying hands-on, sensory-rich play.

Toddlers scoop, stir, pour, and mix mud, water, leaves, and other natural materials, sparking imagination, creativity, and curiosity. Caregivers are encouraged to play alongside their children, fostering connection, communication, and confidence as little ones experiment and explore.

This class supports a wide range of early developmental skills, including fine and gross motor growth, sensory exploration, early problem-solving, language development, social skills, and emotional confidence—all in a relaxed, playful, and joyful outdoor setting.

Strengthen the caregiver–child relationship through shared exploration, presence, and emotional attunement. With caregivers nearby as a secure base, toddlers are free to explore the natural world at their own pace, returning for comfort and reassurance as needed. Nature offers rich, real-life moments for co-regulation, problem-solving, and shared joy, allowing caregivers to respond sensitively to their child’s cues. This slower, relationship-centered approach nurtures trust, confidence, and emerging independence while honoring young children’s developmental need for closeness and connection.

Choose from three locations - in San Anselmo at Forest Meadows (the big field in front of the San Anselmo Playhouse), in Fairfax at the Peri Park Green Stage, and at the Cabin at the Tam Valley Community Center in Tam Valley. Classes are sold individually and advance registration is required. Join us on a regular basis to create routine, support developmental progress, forge a deeper connection with nature, and build community. Come ready to get messy, explore, and make magical muddy memories together!
