15 Free Things to Do for Families in May
It's already May and you don't have to break the bank to have a great time with the kiddos! Here are 15 free activities and outings in Marin and the Bay Area this month. Keep in mind some of these activities require advance registration, so check before you go.
- Bring the little ones to Itsy Bitsy Storytime at the Larkspur Library, Friday, May 2, 10 am.
- Get creative at Art in the Park, McInnis Park, San Rafael, Saturday, May 3 10 am–noon.
- Visit the seals & sea lions, Marine Mammal Center, Marin Headlands, Fridays–Mondays, 10 am–4 pm. Tickets.
- Visit the de Young Museum, Legion of Honor or Conservatory of Flowers in SF for free, Tuesday, May 6
- Bring the little ones to plant a strawberry plant or violet and make a card for mom, Saturday, May 10,10 am–1 pm.
- Enjoy a Hawaiian hula and musical performance, Mill Valley Library, Saturday, May 10, 10:30–11:30 am. Register

- Bring the little ones to Bilingual Music Time at the Belvedere Tiburon Library, Thursday, May 15, 9:15–9:45 am.
- Visit Sonoma County's farms on the Blossoms, Bees & Barnyard Babies farm tour, Saturday & Sunday, May 17 & 18.
- Enjoy a spring campfire, songs, and a marshmallow roast, historic Sonoma Barracks, Saturday, May 17, 6:30 pm.
- Swim (pool opens Saturday, May 24), picnic and play at McNears Beach in San Rafael. Free entry to park and swim.
- Spend the day at Stafford Lake Park in Novato! Ride the zip line play and play at the playground. (daily 7 am–8 pm)
