BRAINSTORM: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain

This event is expired.
Best-selling author and teacher Dr. Dan Siegel comes to the Amador Theater in Pleasanton on Thursday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m. to discuss his hugely popular book, "BRAINSTORM: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain."
Dr. Siegel's book BRAINSTORM: The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain (Tarcher/Penguin paperback; $16.95; August 2015) draws on groundbreaking research to illuminate how brain development affects adolescent behavior - and how parents can better relate to their teenagers during this tumultuous time.
Some of the topics covered will include: popular myths about teenage behavior, why teens are driven to seek out novelty and take more risks, how the brain undergoes rapid changes, even throughout one's early 20s (i.e., your rebellious "teen" years don't end when you hit 20), and why adolescence is a "Golden Age" of innovation and creativity.
Dr. Daniel J. Siegel, M.D. is clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, co-director of the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center, and executive director of the Mindsight Institute. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Siegel is also the author of Mindsight and the internationally acclaimed professional texts The Mindful Brain and The Developing Mind. Dr. Siegel keynotes conferences and presents workshops throughout the world.
"I completed the Mindful Schools curriculum training a few months ago and have read many of Dr. Siegel's books and research. In my humble opinion, every school needs to be teaching mindfulness," noted a Pleasanton School District employee recently, according to Towne Center Books owner Judy Wheeler, who is co-sponsoring the event with the City of Pleasanton's Literary Arts Programs.
Books may be purchased in advance at Towne Center Books, 555 Main Street in Pleasanton, and at the event.
