Heart of Oakland

This event is expired.

On February 4th at 7pm, Oakland School for the Arts (OSA) presents "The Heart of Oakland", a collaborative showcase featuring the best and brightest student work from across OSA's various schools of art. This live event takes place in the historic Fox Theatre. Located in the heart of downtown Oakland, OSA carries on our city's rich tradition of creativity and artistic innovation. Come see the young artists as they represent and celebrate Oakland's continued vibrancy.

"The Heart of Oakland is OSA's way to honor the great city of Oakland that has been the school's home since it opened in 2002. Each school of art at OSA has been creating artistic works that embody the rich culture, beauty, diversity, and creativity that is intrinsically found in Oakland," Cava Menzies, OSA Arts Principal and School of Music Chair, says of this one-of-a-kind event. "As our school continues to grow and expand, it is imperative to us that we stay rooted and aligned with what it means to be an arts institution in Oakland. Years ago we started in the Alice Arts Center, eventually moved to trailers off of San Pablo Avenue and 19th Street, and now currently reside in our beautiful home in the Fox Theatre Building. We have watched this city grow and transform all around us, and it's our aim to continue to represent Oakland's culture and people. While we're proud to draw students from across the Bay Area, without Oakland there is no Oakland School for the Arts. We will always make it a commitment to reflect our beloved city. Oakland nurtured us. The Heart of Oakland is a way for us to remember our roots."

$10-$50.
