MADAGASCAR! - A Musical Adventure, Jr - Civic Arts Stage Company

This event is expired.
March 17 - 26, Fridays & Saturdays 7:30pm, Saturdays & Sundays 2pm
Based on the hit Dream Works animated motion picture, Madagascar - A Musical Adventure, Jr. comes to the Firehouse Arts Center Theatre stage in Pleasanton for two weekends of performances opening March 17.
The popular new youth musical theater production is presented by the City of Pleasanton Civic Arts Stage Company in partnership with Bay Area Children's Theatre, in their third big show of the season.
The plot: Alex the Lion and his gang of best friends - Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo (plus some wacky penguins) - escape from their home in New York's Central Park Zoo in order to explore the world. They find themselves on an unexpected journey across the ocean, ending up in the madcap world of King Julien's Madagascar, where they "Got to Move It, Move It," as the song says.
Why Madagascar, Jr.? BACT Education Director Rebecca Posamentier notes that while it "has characters who are over-the-top silly, it also stays grounded by focusing on the friendship between the main characters and the real-life ups and downs that best-friends experience."
Madagascar, Jr. calls for an ensemble of about 30 actors, with most of the cast for this show from Pleasanton, plus a few members from the greater Tri-Valley area. The age range is from 9 to 17, a little older demographic than recent past productions.
The enthusiastic Production Team: Bob Shryock returns as Director, having helmed last year's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Sidney Speigel choreographed The Sound of Music, and Stage Manager Zach Goldberg has been with the company for almost 2 years. New to Civic Arts, but not to Pleasanton, is music director Andrew Mondello, who also runs arts programing for the City of Pleasanton.
$7-$18; youth, senior discounts.
Presented by City of Pleasanton Firehouse Arts Center.
