For kids who crave challenge and don’t always fit the mold, a new program at Marin Primary & Middle School is redefining gifted education by blending advanced learning with social-emotional support for curious and complex learners.

That’s why we’re expanding our Open Minds Learning Center for the 2026–27 school year, with a new focus on gifted and talented STEAM programming. 

This isn’t “more work” or simply “harder math.” It’s a fundamentally different approach. 

In our primary grades, students will move through foundational skills at an accelerated pace as they demonstrate mastery, using curriculum compacting to eliminate repetition and make room for deeper exploration. Early STEAM experiences emphasize problem-solving, design thinking, and curiosity-driven discovery. 

By upper elementary, students will engage in complex, real-world applications, such as engineering challenges and interdisciplinary projects that require synthesis, not just superficial understanding. 

In middle school, this deepens further through integrated STEAM project work, advanced math pathways, and opportunities like academic competitions and engineering-focused electives. Students are not just learning concepts; they’re testing them and creating authentic solutions. 

We view your child’s natural intensity and sensitivity as superpowers that drive curiosity and ambition. Our comprehensive student services team, including our Open Minds faculty as well as our counselor and nurse, ensures that each student receives essential social-emotional scaffolding and wellness support alongside academic rigor.
