Hands-on Fun for Fall at Slide Ranch

Slide Ranch is a great place for family members of all ages. We tried out one of their family farm days in the past and my kids had a great time petting the sheep planting seeds, milking a goat, and making nature crafts. They offer guided tours and lots of hands-on activities, including collecting eggs from chickens, planting seeds, sampling from their organic garden, learning to make crafts and food just like the early farmers, and exploring the nearby tide pools.

Slide Ranch is located off of Shoreline Highway in Muir Beach. Below is a list of their upcoming fall events. Their programs often sell out quickly, so you need to plan ahead if you are interested in participating. Register for programs online at

Fall Family Farm Days

Family Farm Days at Slide Ranch are relaxed four-hour programs that feature a wide range of activities related to the day's theme. Cost: $30 per person; children 35 months and under are free. Register for Fall Family Farm Days here.

  • Harvest Celebration Family Farm Day
    Saturday, October 14, 10 am–2 pm
    This mini version of the Slide Ranch beloved fall festival celebration event features Slide Ranch classics like milking goats, feeding chickens, cooking, eating, exploring and playing, all with the added fun of some special activities to top off this exciting day, but without the crowds of the larger event from past years.
  • Halloween Family Farm Day
    Saturday, October 28 10 am–2 pm
    The ranch will host special tricks and treats during Slide Ranch’s Halloween Family Farm Day. Activities may include making costumes with recycled materials, face painting, taking a spooky tour of the Slide Ranch garden, investigating worm compost, and cooking up some tasty treats in the outdoor kitchen. Visitors will get a chance to practice trick or treating around the ranch. Costumes are welcome and encouraged! 
  • Give Thanks to Food Family Farm Day
    Saturday, November 18, 10 am–2 pm
    Celebrate food and where it comes from! This family farm day will take you on a journey through the full cycle of seed to meal, and exploring crops from the Slide Ranch garden and food traditions from around the world. Help fire up the cob oven to bake bread and make butter from scratch. You'll also learn about the rich history of dairy farmers in Marin. 

Fall Family Campout 2017

Slide Ranch's Family Campouts are special overnight trips for the whole family featuring farm activities, crafts, and nature exploration. Enjoy a potluck dinner on Saturday night, and gather round the campfire for stories and songs, then set up camp in a spectacular coastal meadow under the stars! On Sunday everyone helps with farm work before enjoying a continental breakfast, then makes and bakes treats harvested from our organic garden. Cost: $90 per person; children 35 months and under are free. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and participants must provide their own camping equipment and a dish to share at the Saturday night potluck. Register for the Fall Family Campout here.

Campouts begin at 10 am on Saturday and end by 1 pm on Sunday.

Toddler Days

Enjoy experiencing the farm and gardens through your child’s eyes. Perfect for families with toddlers and babies. Experience milking a goat, holding a warm egg from a chicken, and exploring the farm. Activities are toddler age appropriate, but all ages welcome. Cost: $25 per person; children 23 months and under are free. Register for Toddler Days here.

Toddler Days take place from 9 am to noon.
