Hanukkah Events & Celebrations in Marin

This year, Hanukkah begins on the evening of Sunday, December 2, and ends Monday, December 10. Families in Marin will find plenty of opportunities to celebrate the Festival of Light this season, with public menorah lightings and fun events featuring storytelling, games, delicious treats like latkes and sufganiyot (donuts), and more. Here's a rundown of family friendly Hanukkah celebrations and events in and around Marin and beyond this winter.

Festival of Lights at the Osher Marin JCC

Sunday, December 2, 11:30 am–2 pm
The Osher Marin JCC celebrates Hanukkah early with their Festival of Lights on Sunday, December 2! This fun and free family party features live music, a glow in the dark dance party, delicious food, an artisan marketplace, LEGO dreidel making, a bounce house,  cookie decorating, face painting, and more. Chabad of Novato Hannukah Events

Chabad of Novato hosts a variety of fun and family-friendly Hannukah events, including a hands-on menorah building workshop at Home Depot in San Rafael, a skating party, and a Grand Menorah Lighting at Whole Foods Market in Novato. Home Depot Menorah Workshop
Sunday, December 2, 10–11:30 am

Build your own menorah at Home Depot and enjoy Hanukkah treats! Participants receive a free worker's apron. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Location: Home Depot, 111 Shoreline Parkway, San Rafael 94901. Learn more and RSVP.

Grand Chalk Menorah Lighting
Sunday, December 2, 5 pm

Come "chalk kindness" at the Grand Chalk Menorah Lighting in downtown Novato. This free community event also features music and dancing, a raffle, refreshments like hot latkes and donuts, and more. Location: Novato City Hall, 901 Sherman Avenue, Novato 94945. Learn more.

Community Chanukah Party
Sunday, December 9, 6:30 pm

Bill Graham Menorah at Union Square

December 2–9
The Bill Graham Menorah lights up San Francisco's Union Square, with lighting ceremonies starting December 2 at 4:30 pm. The first ceremony features David and Alex Graham, Perry Farrell, local dignitaries, and long-time Bill Graham colleagues, as well as musical performances by Jerry’s Kosher Deli plus very special guests. Marin County Pop-up Menorah Lighting, Tiburon

Thursday, December 6, 6–6:20 pm
Light the candles of the menorah and celebrate with music singing and treats with Cantor Marsha Attie, Senior Rabbi Jonathan Singer, and members of Congregation Emanu-El. Location: Tiburon Fountain Plaza (across from Servino Restaurant), 9 Main Street, Tiburon 94920. Learn more.

Light the Menorah at Ghirardelli Square

Thursday, December 9, 4–7 pm
Ghirardelli Square will celebrate Hanukkah on Thursday, December 14 from 4 to 7 pm in the Upper Plaza and Fountain Plaza with free children’s activities, music, and lighting of the menorah by Rabbi Peretz Mochkin.  Location: Ghirardelli Square (Upper Plaza / Fountain Plaza), 900 North Point Street, San Francisco. Chanukah at Rodef Sholom

Friday, December 7, 4:30–6:15 pm
Rodef Sholom in San Rafael will celebrate with a Junior Jews Chanukah Pajama Party, for toddlers through kindergarteners, from 4:30–5:30 pm. Little ones can come in their PJs and light candles together, sing songs, hear stories, and have a snack. Johnny Doughtnuts will be in front of the synagogue from 5:45–6:15 pm serving sufganiyot and coffee before the 6:15 pm shabbat services. Location: 170 North San Pedro Road, San Rafael 94903.
