Make Chocolate Dipped Pretzels for Valentine's Day

Chocolate dipped pretzels

When Valentine's Day rolls around, I'm always on the lookout for easy and fun treats for my kids to make to accompany their Valentine's cards, and for playdate activities, too. This sweet treat is not only fun for the kids to make, but tastes delicious too. The salty, savory taste of the pretzel goes really well with the rich chocolate, and you can decorate and garnish them any way you like. These chocolate-dipped pretzels look beautiful when wrapped in cellophane bags and tied with a ribbon, and make perfect gifts not only for Valentine's Day, but for any occasion.

This is what you need:

  • 1 bag of pretzel rods
  • 1 12-ounce bag of dark, milk, or white chocolate chips
  • Toppings like pink, red, and white Valentine's Day candy sprinkles, crushed nuts, and coconut flakes
  • A microwave safe bowl
  • A cookie sheet lined with waxed paper
  • A spoon and flat spatula

Directions:

  1. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave. Heat for one minute at a time, checking to make sure they're all melted as you go along. Don't burn the chocolate!
  2. Dip each pretzel rod so that about half is coated in chocolate and then roll pretzel over spatula to remove the excess.
  3. Lay the pretzel on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper to cool for about 2 minutes.
  4. Have the kids spoon on their favorite candy sprinkles or other toppings.

My kids ate their pretzels right away, but you should probably let them sit for 20 minutes so the chocolate can harden. Enjoy!
