Look Like a Rock Star Momma!

Being pregnant and looking hip and gorgeous never went hand-in-hand when I was expecting. I use to go in and out of dressing rooms with handfuls of jeans, trying to find a pair that were somewhat flattering and, most importantly, comfortable. I recently came across a copy of a cool and insightful book called Rock Star Momma: The Hip Guide to Looking Gorgeous Through All Nine Months and Beyond by Skye Hoppus. Boy, I wish I had this book when I was pregnant! Author Skye Hoppus is a designer and former head of the MTV West Coast music office, and founder and owner of Childish Clothing, a ultra-hip line of maternity and children’s clothing. She’s also a real-life rock-star momma, and the wife of Mark Hoppus of blink-182 and +44 fame.

Her book is chock-full of tips on how to look and feel your most gorgeous during those nine months of pregnancy, and includes advice by celebrity moms like Gwyneth Paltrow (who also wrote the foreword), Elle Macpherson, Mariska Hargitay, and Kimora Lee Simmons. Topics range from finding the perfect maternity jeans (where was this section when I needed it) to an overview of maternity career wear to style tips for that trip home from the hospital with baby.

While the “Rock Star Momma” title may seem a little over the top, the book is really full of great practical day-to-day health, beauty, and style tips for soon-to-be and new moms. Information on the myriad changes your body goes through while pregnant, and how to deal with them to look your best seem really helpful. Personally, I like the solution on what to do about your feet growing larger: go shoe shopping! There’s also a handy directory of pregnancy resource, maternity fashion, baby-related, and other useful websites for “haute moms” in the back of the book.
