Family-friendly Weekend Events for February 22, 23 & 24

Friday, February 22

Bring the kids (ages 2–5) to Fantastic Fridays: Birds, Birds Everywhere this Friday from 10 am to noon. In this program, you and your toddler will explore the beautiful bird habitat that is Crissy Field Marsh. Take a bird watching hike and learn ways that we can keep the marsh healthy for years to come. Drop-ins accepted on a space-available basis. Saturday, February 23

Williams-Sonoma at the Village in Corte Madera presents a Kids Cooking Class: Sweet Breakfast Treats. Kids can learn how to cook a homemade breakfast and make French toast, German apple pancakes, or sour cream blueberry waffles. $48 per person. Chinese New Year Storytime at the Pt Reyes Station Library from 10:00 am to 10:30 am. Chinese stories for children 3 to 6 years old and their caregivers. Siblings are welcome. Also from 11:00 am to noon is the Chinese New Year Lion Dance. The Pt Reyes Station Library is kicking off the Year of the Rat with an exciting performance by the Marin Chinese Cultural Association Lion Dance Team. The Bay Area Discovery Museum teams up with World Arts West to present World On Stage. This Saturday at 11 am the Camino Criollos performs. The series concludes with an Afro-Puerto Rican performance. Musical Discoveries, performed by the San Francisco Symphony, is part of the Music for Families program. Come discover the many wondrous ways a symphony orchestra creates music to spark our imaginations and tickle our ears with delight. Conductor Benjamin Shwartz will be your guide. PartyKidz LLC, a family dance party with music, refreshments, face painting and more, takes place on Saturday from 1 to 5 pm.  The location is at 330 Ritch Street (right by the Giants’ ballpark) in San Francisco. Come celebrate Lunar New Year 4706—the Year of the Rat—at the Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Parade. The celebration, a San Francisco tradition since the Gold Rush, features a 201-foot Golden Dragon, lion dancers, exploding firecrackers, costumes, floats, and Miss Chinatown USA. Come out to Point Reyes for the Kule Loklo Walk from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. This leisurely 0.8 mile tour introduces visitors to the Coast Miwok Culture. Meet at Bear Valley Visitor Center. The tour lasts 1 to 1.5 hours. Free. For more info, call (415) 646-5100.
