Here's our weekly list of 15 fun things to do with the kids this week, August 31–September 6. From live music and hands-on art making to beaches and family hikes, there's something for everyone.

Keep in mind that some of these activities require advance registration, so check the organizer's website before you attend. If you have something fun you'd like to share, please let us know and we'll consider it for next week's list!

  1. Make a batch of super easy and delicious Scottish shortbread.

  3. Get the kiddos involved and start planning your fall veggie garden.
  4. Catherine's back with online songs, stories, and rhymes for preschool storytime and fun.
  5. Picnic and play at South Rodeo Beach in the Marin Headlands.
  6. Explore China Camp State Park — hike, bike, picnic, or relax at the beach.
  7. Take a Virtual Tour of Outer Space, Cal Academy's Morrison Planetarium. Wednesday, September 2, 4:30–5 pm.
  8. Visit the historic aircraft of the Pacific Coast Air Museum in Santa Rosa, Wednesdays–Sundays, 10 am–4 pm
  9. Get creative and make your own unique terrarium.
  10. Bonjour! Gather the little ones for virtual French Storytime with Emilia with Belvedere Tiburon Library.
  11. The Petaluma Drive-in Movie presents The Goonies at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds. Friday, September 4, 7:30 pm
  12. Experience Shrek at the Lark Drive-in: Movies Under the Stars. Friday, September 4, 8:30 pm
  13. Sing along with Grampa Clyde and Freighter Tots Online from Berkeley's Freight & Salvage, Saturdays at 10 am
  14. Take a ride to Angel Island on the Tiburon Ferry.
  15. Make some art outdoors at Marin MOCA's Free Family Day, Sunday, September 6, 11 am–3 pm
