Celebrate Halloween with Boo at the Zoo at the Oakland Zoo!

Join the Oakland Zoo this fall for Halloween fun at their annual Boo at the Zoo event! This year's event has been expanded from a eight-day event to four weekends of family fun. Boo at the Zoo takes place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from October 8–31, 2021.

Families visiting the zoo during Boo at the Zoo will participate in a self-guided animal scavenger hunt — grab a program on your way in and follow the clues to find all the trick-or-treating animals hidden throughout the zoo. Instead of trick or treating in the zoo this year, pre-filled goodie bags will be handed out to all children.

Remember to dress in costume when you visit and tag Oakland Zoo on social media to enter their Halloween costume contest. Winners will receive 4 tickets to the zoo's amazing holiday nighttime lantern festival, Glowfari, which takes place from November 12, 2021 through January 30, 2022!

Boo at the Zoo is included with regular zoo admission. All tickets must be reserved in advance online. Timed tickets are on sale 28 days in advance. Since attendance is currently limited, please be aware that you may not be able to secure your first choice of date and time.

Themed costume days include:

  • Fridays (October 8, 15, 22, 29): Twinning — Parents suit up! It's time to twin with your mini in your favorite Halloween costumes.
  • Saturdays (October 9, 16, 23, 30): Monster Squad — Ghouls and monsters of the night, it's your time to shine for a Halloween fright. Dress up in your classic monster squad members.
  • Sundays (October 10, 17, 24, 31): Favorite Animal Friends — Furry or scaley, feathers or slimy, it's up to you! Pick your favorite animal to sport around the Zoo.

The Oakland Zoo is located at 9777 Golf Links Road in Oakland. Admission is $24 for adults (15–64), $20 for children 2–14 and seniors 65+, and free for children under 2 and seniors 76+. A discount is offered for military families with current military ID. Parking is an additional $10 per car. Timed tickets are issued for 1-hour slots. The zoo will be open from 10 am to 6 pm through Labor Day, with early hours for members. Last timed ticket will be from 3–4 pm. For more info and to reserve your tickets visit
