Get Fit and Fight Breast Cancer with Fitpink

Looking to build strength, tone muscle, and improve aerobic fitness in an outdoor setting, all while helping raise money to fight breast cancer? Fitpink is a Marin-based organization that provides “all outdoors” small-group training for women who are looking to get fit and help a great cause.

Fitpink was founded by Novato resident Ian Tonks, who was inspired by his passion for fitness and interest in women’s causes. A native of England, Ian holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from the University of Northumbria and an MBA in strategic leadership from Dominican University of California. He has more than 20 years of professional experience as a leader in youth sports programming, development, and fundraising, and has worked with athletes in several professional sports leagues, including Major League Soccer and the NFL.

Fitpink participants meet in local family-friendly parks, making it easy to squeeze in a workout while the kids get theirs. Workouts last for one hour and include aerobic, strength, and flexibility training elements. Each workout is unique, leading to better and faster results. With sessions throughout the week and across Marin County, it’s easy to choose workouts that fit your schedule and expectations.

Fitpink also helps make personal training affordable—each session is just $15, and your first session is free so you can try it out and see if you like it. Plus, there is no equipment to buy.

Each month, Fitpink promotes a challenge activity, such as a 5K, walk, or hike. Fitpink participants are encouraged to take part and raise or donate at least $100 to a breast cancer charity of their choosing (such as Zero Breast Cancer, Avon, Susan G. Komen, etc.). Fitpink provides the tools, techniques, and fundraising expertise to assist them with their challenge. Spring/summer 2010 Challenge Events include:

  • May 31, 2010—Marin Memorial Day Races
  • June 6, 2010—Statuto Race & Walk
  • July July 4, 2010—Potero Hill 4M
  • August 8, 2010—Golden Gate Park Cross-Country 5K
  • September 25, 2010—Hers Keep Abreast 5K/10K
  • October 2, 2010—Zero Breast Cancer Dipsea Walk/Hike/Run
